I’d say this here is about half done. It is one solid evening’s work, following a day or two of ironing out details with my brother, who’s asked for the piece. We’re sort of modernizing our process of communication too, which is important since he’s in New Mexico and I’m a thousand miles away in Berkeley.
It’s a lot of back and forth on google wave, which is turning into a usefulish tool for us – sort of a common drafting table that we can both see and edit. We’ve also got skype on full time, streaming video back and forth as we discuss ideas.
He posted six stills and one short sample animation of the fractal zoom to be, and then conveyed the mood he wanted to go for. He wanted it dark and scary, with a glorious moment of reprieve in the middle.
Together we hashed out specific parts, like the requisite 7 second intro where he displays the formula and title of the zoom, then a deceptive introduction that will blorp into the scariness. Right now the blorps are fragile, but I will thicken them up tomorrow. I’m aiming to have the whole thing done by then.
Check out other, earlier, complete fractal videos here or on youtube.
